Job Description

REPORTS TO High School Principal
BASIC FUNCTIONS Assist the high school principal in the administration and control of the high school. Will serve as
principal om the absence of the principal; therefore, must be familiar with all aspects of the principal’s responsibilities.
Administration & Organization
1. Assume responsibility during times principal is away from the building and make decisions if the occasion demands
when principal is not available.
2. Carry out policies, procedures, rules and regulations for the orderly operation of the building.
3. Assume responsibility for and maintain order in the halls and restrooms during the school day and class changes.
4. Administer student attendance records and procedures.
5. Administer student discipline records and procedures, including school bus discipline.
6. Recommend suspensions and expulsions to the principal.
7. Responsible for annual revision of the student handbook and staff handbook.
8. Be involved in the development of the master schedule and the preparation of student schedules.
9. Submit periodic and regular reports as requested by the principal and other authorized persons.
10. Enforce policies for safeguarding health, safety, equipment and property.
11. Assume responsibility for the proper usage and high level of care for building and grounds.
12. Assist in the inspection of the building and grounds; make needs known to the principal.
13. Administer a regulated program of student-car permits and student-car care.
Curricular & Instructional Leadership
1. Assist principal in planning staff in-service meetings.
2. Assist principal in the staff evaluation process within the adopted guidelines, including coaches.
3. Conduct regular classroom observations as assigned by the principal.
4. Attend meetings as designated by the principal.
5. Assist teachers and counselors with curricular matters as directed by the principal
Staff Relations
1. Maintain effective daily communications with staff on an individual basis.
2. Confer and work directly with teachers and counselors regarding students’ achievement growth, attendance,
discipline, and other matters related to the success of the students.
3. Assist principal in conducting staff meetings.
4. Promote cooperation between all members of our staff.
Pupil Relations
1. Show concern for and get to know students as individuals.
2. Maintain effective communications with students and their leaders.
3. Confer with students regarding achievement, growth, attendance, discipline, extra-curricular
activities, and other matters related to the success of the students.
4. Responsible for school discipline; define procedures for handling behavioral problems.
5. Responsible for investigative follow-up action of attendance problems.
6. Serve as school liaison with Juvenile Center, County Office Pupil Personnel, school nurse,
social and law enforcement agencies.
7. Responsible for program of protection of student personal property by use of lockers.
8. Attend, as scheduled by the principal, athletic and social functions sponsored by the school.
Community Relations
1. Keep parents informed of school regulations in regard to student conduct code.
2. Conduct parent conferences as deemed necessary and appropriate or as directed by the principal.
3. Serve as the official representative of the building at school functions in the absence of the principal.
